Alma’s Volunteer Corner: Be Our CASA Guest
Before I became a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer, I volunteered on CASA’s Recruitment & Retention Committee. It gave me the opportunity to dip my toes in the shallow end of the pool before jumping into the deep blue ocean to give a kiddo a life vest. It took me years to take the leap, but it all started with an invitation to help in a way that was most comfortable for me – by helping CASA with a marketing task.
Today, I’d like to invite you to help CASA in some ways that require nothing more than a few hours of your day. And maybe you have some interest in crafts, or children’s clothes, or learning more about this amazing organization with a free breakfast.

Closet-to-Closet Clothing Donation Event
Go through your closets and collect any gently used clothes or shoes for children/teens to donate to CASA. Meet me and the team at the CASA house for coffee and snacks and help us hang your donation up on racks for easy sorting. If you don’t have time to go through the clothes, just make your donation and stop by for a quick cup of coffee on your way out. If you want to donate clothes hangers for your donation items, that would be great too.
- Tuesday, September 16, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- CASA, 174 Deadmond Ferry Road, Springfield, OR 97477
- Please call Robben at 541-868-3083 to learn more or volunteer.
We will accept any and all donations but have a great need for the following:
- New and gently used baby clothes
- New and gently used teen clothes
- New and gently used shoes
- New socks
- New underwear
No toys or stuffed animals, please.
Heroes for Children Breakfast
I’d like to invite you to join me at CASA’s free breakfast to learn more about CASA. You will be asked to consider making a contribution or becoming involved as a volunteer, but there is no requirement to do either. As much as anything, I’d like you to come and find out about the great work CASA is doing for kids in our community. I would be delighted if you would join me.
- Wednesday, October 1st, 7:30 -8:30 a.m. at the Eugene Hilton.
- If you’re interested in attending or need more information, please email me at[email protected] or call 541-484-1515.
These are just a few of the ways you can help support CASA of Lane County. You can learn more about other ways to volunteer on our website. I hope to see you all very soon!
